Radiation Injury Treatment
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Heals Radiation Damage
Radiation therapy saves lives — but for many patients, the damage it causes to surrounding healthy tissue can persist for months or years after treatment ends. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the few treatments proven to halt ongoing radiation injury, regrow damaged blood vessels, and restore tissue that conventional medicine considers permanently compromised.
How HBOT heals radiation damage
Oxygen rebuilds what radiation destroys.
Radiation therapy kills cancer cells by disrupting their oxygen supply — but it can also damage the microvasculature of healthy surrounding tissue, leaving areas of the bladder, bowel, bone, and skin chronically oxygen-deprived. This hypoxic tissue cannot heal on its own, and the damage often worsens over time.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by supersaturating the blood plasma with oxygen at pressures of 2.0–2.5 ATA. In irradiated tissue, this triggers angiogenesis — the growth of new blood vessels — restoring the oxygen supply that radiation destroyed. HBOT also mobilizes stem cells and reduces inflammation, enabling tissue repair that cannot occur through any other mechanism.
The FDA, Medicare, and the American Medical Association recognize HBOT as a proven treatment for radiation injury. Our patient care coordinators handle all insurance authorization on your behalf.

Insurance covered
Radiation Damage to the Bladder
(Hemorrhagic Cystitis / Radiation Cystitis)
Medicare, the AMA, and the FDA recognize HBOT as a proven treatment for hemorrhagic cystitis. Studies show 76% of patients experience significant resolution of symptoms including bleeding, urgency, and pain.

Insurance covered
Radiation Damage to the Mouth, Neck & Head
(Osteoradionecrosis)
The FDA and Medicare approve HBOT for osteoradionecrosis — bone death caused by radiation to the jaw and head. HBOT promotes bone regeneration and is used before and after dental surgery in irradiated fields.

Insurance covered
Radiation Damage to the Breast
HBOT halts ongoing radiation damage to breast tissue and is used as an adjunct to skin grafting for necrosis of the chest wall after mastectomy. It stimulates angiogenesis in hypoxic tissue, correcting ischemia.

Insurance covered
Radiation Damage to the Abdomen & Pelvis
Radiation targeting abdominal tumors can cause enteritis, fibrosis, and vascular injury. HBOT promotes healing of irradiated bowel, bladder, and surrounding pelvic structures, reducing pain and restoring function.

Insurance covered
Radiation Proctitis
Radiation proctitis — chronic rectal inflammation and bleeding following pelvic radiation — responds strongly to HBOT. Treatment also addresses co-occurring radiation cystitis and surrounding soft tissue injury.

Insurance covered
Radiation Damage to Other Bones & Tissues
Radiation injury to bones and soft tissues outside the head, pelvis, or breast — including rib necrosis, soft tissue radionecrosis, and radiation-induced fibrosis — can all be addressed with HBOT. Call us to discuss your specific situation.
Insurance & Medicare coverage
Radiation injury is covered. We handle all the paperwork.
Every radiation injury condition we treat is recognized by Medicare and covered by most major private insurers, including Kaiser, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, and United Health Care. Many patients pay little to nothing out of pocket.
