Your first visit at Bay Area Hyperbarics
How to prepare for your first hyperbaric oxygen therapy session.
Treatments typically take 2 hours, so plan for about 2-1/2 hours on your first visit — you'll have an intake with our medical team, we'll give you a clinic tour and you'll have your first HBOT session. Most patients leave feeling energized and reassured.
From arrival to leaving, here's how your first appointment unfolds.

HOW TO PREPARE
A few simple things before you arrive
Small preparation makes your first visit smoother and safer.
Bring your ID and credit card or insurance card.
Bring your photo ID. If your treatments are being covered by insurance, bring your insurance card. If you are self-pay, bring your credit card.
Eat a light meal
Normal food 1-2 hours before. Skip carbonated and caffeinated drinks.
Wear cotton clothing
We provide you with comfortable pajamas that you change into. No synthetics are allowed inside the chamber.
Skip lotions & perfumes
No flammable products for safety in a pure-oxygen environment.
Leave jewelry at home
We provide lockers, but less is better.
Complete forms online
We'll email intake forms to save time when you arrive.
What to Expect Inside the Chamber
Comfortable, safe, surprisingly relaxing
Most patients are surprised by how easy HBOT feels.
What you'll feel:
Mild ear pressure during the 10-minute pressurization — similar to an airplane descent. Once at treatment pressure, you feel completely normal. Many patients nap, watch movies or listen to music for the 90-minute session.
How we keep you comfortable:
You're in continuous two-way communication with our technician. Climate-controlled chamber, large viewing windows, cushioned bed. We monitor you the entire time. Movies, music and reading available.
