Saratoga patients share their healing stories

Brandi Chastain, the hero of the Olympic gold-medal-winning USA women’s soccer team experienced such persistent pain in her knee that she woke up each night in pain. She had 4 previous knee surgeries. For the past five years, she was unable to sleep through the night. When she later became a coach, she needed to run all day, but her knee would balloon up like a ball. After several treatments with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, she experiences almost no inflammation. In short, her knee healed. She no longer wakes up at night from pain, and she runs all day without a problem.

Until recently, Shawn held the world record for the largest wave ever ridden. One day, while surfing, Shawn had a major accident on the rocks. He broke his neck in four places and experienced significant traumatic brain injury (TBI). As Shawn said, “I had suffered major brain damage.” His neurologists had no more answers on how to help him return to normal. Shawn affirmed that, “before hyperbaric Oxygen therapy, I was a mess. I wasn’t myself, and was desperate to find a solution to the pain, the headaches, and the brain fatigue.” After only his first hyperbaric head injury treatment, he felt an improvement; the effects were immediate. Shawn said, “I could feel my old self coming back. I was aware that I was going to get better, finally.” In the end, Shawn attributes his full recovery from concussion symptoms to Bay Area Hyperbarics’ comprehensive hyperbaric chamber therapy and medical care. He is surfing once again and continues to ride the big waves.

Daniel Cormier, an Olympic champion wrestler and UFC champion (he holds two titles: light heavyweight and heavyweight champion fighter) used our hyperbaric treatments a week before his big fights, (see his video here) He said it gave him an edge, an advantage. Daniel also came in hobbling one day after having injured his knee while training. After one HBOT treatment, Daniel was able to drive his car again. He also resumed running 5 miles per day, starting the very next day. Although professional athletes often do not like to give away their secrets to prevent their competition from gaining a similar advantage, Daniel is a warm hearted and caring man.

Lisa St John, the clinic director for Bay Area Hyperbarics, had chronic refractory osteomyelitis that lasted seven years with no relief. The infection induced severe fatigue and cognitive impairment that prevented her from working and required her to sleep up to 18 hours per day. Finally, a physician recommended hyperbaric oxygen therapy with antibiotics, which after 60 osteomyelitis treatments, healed her. Shortly after being healed, she sold her home to begin her first hyperbaric oxygen therapy clinic, which she has owned for 25 years!

Lisa, 44

Jennifer had osteomyelitis of the lower jaw (mandible), which proved difficult to heal. Her teeth were becoming loose, and her doctor thought she would need surgery. However, he prescribed hyperbaric oxygen therapy before the surgery, and after 60 osteomyelitis treatments, her chronic refractory osteomyelitis healed completely, regrowing bone in her mandible. Jennifer was able to keep her teeth, and was able to return to her active lifestyle, hiking regularly with her husband.
