Jim had migraine headaches on average every six weeks, each of which lasted three to five days and left him unable to work. He had to lie quietly in a dark room, and even medication at times did not work. His physician prescribed hyperbaric oxygen therapy, saying, “Some patients tell me it helps.” Throughout his hyperbaric treatments, Jim noticed increased energy, but the most surprising benefit was that his erectile insufficiency was completely gone. He said that he felt 20 years younger. He was able to run, and to experience an erection whenever he and his partner wanted.

Jesus came to Bay Area Hyperbarics concerned because his physician said he would probably need to have a foot amputated because of a diabetic foot wound. After 60 treatments, Jesus' wound was almost completely healed, and his neuropathy went away.
Jesus was at first shy about sharing the side-effect: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy healed his erectile dysfunction, which he had for the previous eight years. His wife felt that she had her younger husband back. They could hike and be active in ways they had not for nearly a decade.

Wen was very upset when she lost her hearing in her right ear. She was given steroid injections in her ear by her ENT. Her ENT then sent her on to our clinic for HBOT treatments. She had slow recovery of about half her normal hearing starting at approximately her 10th treatment. Although Wen did not recover all of her hearing when she finished her prescribed treatments, she had recovered quite a bit of her hearing and did not require a hearing aid.

Lorraine was about to lose several teeth, because the bones in her jaw were weakened by radiation from cancer treatments.
HBOT strengthened her bones and healed open sores in her mouth that her oral surgeon told her would otherwise not heal. At Bay Area Hyperbarics, we have treated patients for 20 years with radiation damage from treating oral cancers. HBOT has help them return to normal lives. Our patients tell us it also seems to heal their fatigue from “chemo brain” and radiation so they get their energy back. We can help you or your loved one too.

John, who is a salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, came in after having multiple other treatments, some very painful, to stop his bladder from bleeding. Unfortunately, none of the previous treatments helped.
Most patients who come to us to try hyperbaric oxygen therapy for a damaged bladder have already tried other conservative measures, which sadly have resulted in failure. In John’s case, he even had two transfusions. He also passed painful clots from time to time that resulted in his having to make several trips to the ER. He got up frequently at night to urinate and limited his social life as a result. Hyperbarics healed John’s bladder, and the bleeding stopped. He left feeling much more enthusiastic about life.

Josephina, a 61-year-old woman, lived and took care of an elderly friend half the year on the coast of Oregon. She is a quiet spoken, thoughtful woman who had cancer in her mouth 18 years prior to coming in for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The radiation that was used to treat her cancer many years before was very successful. However, she went to her dentist and complained of her tooth feeling loose. The radiation had started to damage the circulation in her mandible and her gums. Her tooth had died and her dentist wanted to remove it. Her dentist also thought that she had two other teeth that were threatened as well. Josephina was sent to an oral surgeon who diagnosed osteoradionecrosis, which is death of the bone due to radiation injury. The blood vessels in the jaw start to die off due to radiation damage. When this happens the bone can get very fragile and sometimes fracture which creates a much bigger problem including a long and difficult recovery. So to avoid this, and prior to taking out her tooth, her surgeon sent her for hyperbaric treatments. The Marx protocol was used which included 20 treatments prior to removing the tooth to revascularize and thus strengthen the jaw. After removing the tooth Deborah returned for the remaining 10 more session to insure the bone heals up properly. In her case, Josephina was fortunate that the bone was strengthened with hyperbarics prior to more teeth dying. Indeed, she was pleased that she did not lose any further teeth. Two years later she came back to visit and say hello. She still had all the rest of her teeth.

Fiona, a lively and proud mother of five grown children and an avid gardener, had received radiation many years earlier, which had damaged her bone.
It caused a severe infection in the bones in the roof of her mouth. In addition, Fiona was concerned about her low energy levels. She had tried everything, including antibiotics. When she received HBOT along with antibiotics, it cured the bone infection in her mouth. It healed and regrew her bones and gums. Fiona also said that her energy levels had also returned sufficiently that she could again garden, which she said was fundamental to her sense of well-beingOn some school holidays, she brings one of her children in to the shop. Angelina had a lumpectomy and radiation to her right breast. The difficulty started slowly over the next several years when she had pain on lifting up her right arm. Cancer was ruled out. She was sent to physical therapy. She did her physical therapy exercises daily as they requested but the weakness and pain continued to make working difficult as she repaired items on the machines. I gave her information about hyperbaric medicine and what it had done for my mother. She took it to her physician who approved her for HBOT. The mild swelling and some pain reduced within the first week of treatments. It took 30 treatments to repair the tissues to dispel the pain. A year later she was still working in the shop without pain or range of motion issues.

During his treatment protocol for migraines and headaches of 60 sessions, he did not have any migraines. Moreover, he did not have any migraines for a full year after having stopped. When we checked back two years later, he had been mostly pain-free for those two years. Contrast this with losing a week of productive living every six weeks before hyperbarics.
Jim, 58

After hyperbaric chamber treatment for an early childhood concussion (60 treatments at 2.0 ATA), her migraines virtually ceased. She is now down to two episodes per year instead of two per week and only renews her prescription once per year instead of every two weeks. Lisa points out that nothing changed in her life that could have caused the improvement other than HBO treatment.

Marian had taught acupuncture for 12 years to students in a prestigious acupuncture school. She loved teaching and was devoted to her students.
One day, a reckless driver rammed Marian’s car so fast it resulted in multiple injuries, including a head injury. She recovered from her other injuries but her head “just wasn’t right.” She came to Bay Area Hyperbarics after 6 months of biofeedback, acupuncture and other therapies. She was depressed and was thinking of early retirement because she said she couldn’t teach students with her sluggish brain. She complained about piles of paper stacked around her house that she couldn’t sort through.
She was also plagued with intense emotional swings. She was so anxious that she would sit in our waiting room and cry while trying to “pull myself together to drive home.” She had become anxious of driving. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy repaired her brain and resolved her emotional volatility, anxiety, depression, and sluggish brain. She said she could think normally again. She returned to full time work teaching her students again.

Jeremy is a high functioning big-data-management engineer in Silicon Valley. He loved surfing, mountain biking, and taking his dog with him.
Jeremy had a history of head injuries from sports, including years of soccer headers, football injuries and mountain biking accidents. Jeremy had come in to Bay Area Hyperbarics during high school when he found he had difficulty keeping up in his AP math classes. He was thinking of dropping out of AP math, but his mother brought him in to us to see if HBOT could help. And, it did! HBOT helped him enough that he stayed in AP math and graduated with honors.
After graduating high school, Jeremy went on to a prestigious university to become an engineer and linguist.
Eleven years after we first saw him, Jeremy brought himself into our clinic for a second time. He was having problems keeping up with the high demands of his job. He said he had to maintain concentration on many variables at the same time while solving complex problems. He feared he was having some days where he just could not perform up to his expectations. He said he needed more focus, better memory and more energy as he also had bouts of fatigue. He was treated using the Haddany study protocol (see the study cited above). Jeremy came back to visit us after finishing his HBOT treatments. He told us he was extremely pleased with his ability to perform now with greater ease, much more quickly, and he finds that answers come to him quicker. He says his energy has improved, not only at work, but also with his mountain biking.

Elliot was active in sports in high school. During football practice, he had a concussion that turned out to be his second. This one was caused when he collided with another players’ head and helmet.
Elliot didn’t recover from this concussion as he had with the first one. After two months, he stopped going to school. Maintaining a regular schedule just became too difficult given his inability to concentrate and his memory loss. Even reading became too difficult because he had blurry vision.
Elliot came to Bay Area Hyperbarics five months after his concussion with these concerns, but also depression, intermittent fatigue, sleep disturbances, and headaches. His parents tried several different therapies, diet changes, supplements and migraine medications. He was supervised by a psychiatrist and on prescription anti-anxiety meds, plus meds for depression. He was also receiving acupuncture.
It took two months of hyperbaric therapy to heal his brain well enough that he could return to school. Honestly, he seemed like a different person when he left our clinic. He was smiling and walked with a healthy gait. However, he did not return to play football, based on a recommendation from his neurologist.

After surgery, he healed and ran around just fine. However, when the toes healed, they healed with webbing between them. There was concern that as he grew, the webbing would cause difficulties. So, the surgeon separated the toes, but because of the prior trauma, they would not heal.
In essence, the blood supply was limited, and thus, not enough oxygen was being carried into the toes. Christopher came to us and watched his favorite movies while sitting in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber with his Dad.
His toes healed up just fine. The hyperbaric oxygen treatments grew new microscopic blood vessels, which in turn delivered more oxygen to his toes. Everyone was pleased with the way Christopher’s toes healed up.

When she first came into our hyperbaric clinic, physicians feared Ania would lose her leg, because of poor perfusion in her damaged tissues. After 10 HBOT sessions, Ania started to feel some intense nerve pain, which meant that was growing new blood vessels and nerves. After 40 treatments, the pain had mostly subsided and she was able to walk with crutches, which surprised her physicians. They thought it would take many more months to heal. Ania was well on her way to complete healing by the time she completed her hyperbaric oxygen sessions,.

A retired university professor, Linda underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder. Unfortunately, the surgeon accidentally perforated her colon, which caused sepsis and ultimately compartment syndrome. As soon as she was able to leave the hospital, Linda received hyperbaric oxygen therapy every day for almost six weeks. Before HBOT, Linda could not walk and could not eat solid food. After HBOT, she was walking on her own, eating solid food, and even fixing dinner and hiking with her husband! The surgeon said she healed faster than he thought possible, given the grave nature of her condition.

Mary was a grateful, passionate and dedicated nurse who loved playing the piano. Seven years after a double mastectomy and radiation without reconstructive surgery, Mary had a patch of skin on the right side of her chest that kept thinning.
By the time we saw her, the skin had worn away, leaving a weeping patch of underlying tissue. The area was the size of her hand. She kept covered it with gauze and tape. It didn’t hurt but the dripping was annoying and it could get infected which was dangerous not only for her but her patients as well. Also, the patch was continuing to grow bigger as the skin cells continued to die. This was a side effect of the radiation. The skin grew back with 40 treatments. Mary was happily able continue her nursing career.

Warm & friendly, Joyce had a discolored patch about the size of a silver dollar on her breast. It was pale skin in striking contrast to the rest of her breast which was a beautiful coffee color.
She said the patch was still painful and she was not able to raise her arm above her shoulder. It just hurt too much. Thirty treatments of HBOT and she could swing her arm in every direction even above her head. The discolored painful patch had healed up and disappeared. Her skin was smooth and best of all it felt normal and didn’t hurt.

Her problem was that she developed bedsores on her buttocks that would not heal for months. The sores continued to worsen and got infected so badly that she developed a bone infection (called osteomyelitis).
Her husband was worried about her infections and brought her in for HBO treatment for wounds. After treatment, her bone infection and sores healed completely. She and her husband were very pleased.

In addition, his foot remained numb, even where the skin had healed. The hyperbaric wound care treatments Jesus received healed the rest of the sore on his foot, but it also healed the numbness!

Fortunately, this eliminated the tumor. However, it also resulted in a two-inch long non-healing chest wound where the tumor had been.
Fortunately for him, hyperbaric wound therapy healed his chest and skin, so he could return to finish high school, and move on to junior college!

She had a severely misshapen head, a tube in her stomach to feed her, and a tube to help her breathe. Tragically, Mara's mother was told her baby would never recover nor respond like a normal child. She had already returned to the hospital twice for complications with her condition. Mara's mother brought her in 5 days a week for hyperbaric oxygen TBI treatment. When Mara finished hyperbarics, her tubes had been removed. She could breathe on her own, and she was able to eat and swallow food like a normal child. HBOT head injury treatment helped Mara be strong enough to sit up and wave bye-bye when encouraged. The nurse in the Pediatrician's office burst into tears of joy when she saw the improvements in Mara's condition.

His parents were frantic. Kevin had tried prescription drugs and therapy, which helped some with his systems. However, they did not eliminate the headaches and fatigue or improve his mood. They did not get him up and back to school.
After HBO therapy, Kevin could attend school again and interact with his friends. HBOT head injury treatment made a major impact in recovering Kevin’s cognitive and emotional health and well-being.

Karen is 36 year old stay at home mom of two little girls, and a musician who taught music whenever she could. When she received a cancer diagnosis, as with most young women, her diagnosis was a shock to her and her family. In the end, she had a double mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. The weakness and fatigue that followed in the wake of her procedures were bad enough, but the pain that arose was almost debilitating. Because of the pain, she had difficulty driving her girls to daycare because she could barely hold onto the steering wheel. She complained that her arms felt like lead and her left shoulder hurt with a shocking intensity every time she turned the steering wheel. She simply cried in pain as she drove. Her physician diagnosed this pain as damage from the radiation treatments, and he sent her to Bay Area Hyperbarics. Karen's hyperbaric oxygen treatments healed her pain, the swelling and the aching. To her additional relief, HBOT also helped diminish the overall body fatigue that otherwise increased as morning progressed to afternoon.

Amelia was a lovely and lively 72 year old poet and world traveler. However, radiation treatments from several years past had slowly destroyed the skin tissue and her underlying rib.
She had had two different surgeons try to close the hole that had appeared beside her nipple. The skin was fragile and would not regrow. She had 40 hyperbaric treatments, which regrew the skin and layers of breast tissue underneath
